How Can You Protect Yourself
To turn off cell phone tracking, start by disabling location services in your phone’s settings. On iOS, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and toggle it off. On Android, go to Settings > Location and turn off Use Location. This stops GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular-based tracking.
For added privacy:
Turn off Web & App Activity in your Google Account to prevent Google from saving your location history. Go to myaccount.google.com > Data & Privacy > Web & App Activity > Turn off and delete activity.
Disable app permissions for location, microphone, and camera. Review these under Settings > Privacy & Security.
Use Airplane Mode to cut all wireless signals (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), which stops most tracking—though GPS may still work if location services are on.
Install a VPN (like AVG Secureline or Mysterium) to encrypt your internet connection and mask your IP address.
Consider using private browsing (Incognito Mode in Chrome, Firefox Focus, or Safari Private Browsing) to limit tracking during web sessions.
Note: While these steps significantly reduce tracking, no method makes a phone completely untraceable if the device is on and connected to a network. For maximum privacy, turning the phone off entirely is the most effective, though impractical for daily use.
A Faraday bag for a phone is a portable, signal-blocking pouch made with conductive materials like metal mesh or fabric that creates a Faraday cage effect. When you place your phone inside and seal the bag, it blocks all incoming and outgoing electromagnetic signals, including cellular (4G/5G), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and RFID/NFC.
