This past Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, several dozen people showed up to line Route 9 by the VA in Leeds, including a half dozen or so public school students. Among them was Lennon Hurley, 12, pictured above.
We asked: There are so many other things you could have been doing on a warm summer day, but you chose to come to this protest. Would you like to talk a little about why, and what it meant to you?
Lennon Hurley replied: On a national level, we need to all protest injustice in our country and work together to make our country better. If we just let the trump administration do what they please, our country would be ruined. But we don’t want that to happen, and we’re going to put up a fight to make sure that doesn’t happen.
I chose to come to this protest because think it is important to support causes that affect us all as a country. We are protesting this injustice on a national level, but we are also protesting locally within our communities. We must work together in our communities to make sure that nothing bad happens. In conclusion, I think it’s extremely important that we all show up and do our civic duty to protest injustice and unlawfulness.
